About J-Times

J-Times explains Japanese culture, etiquette and regional history — including the why behind them. It is published by Jon&Coo Inc.; articles and podcasts are produced by the J-Times editors.

How we report

  • Why first. We connect customs to their historical, religious, climatic, geographic and social background.
  • We cite sources — primary ones wherever possible, such as the Agency for Cultural Affairs, shrines and temples, local governments, official statistics and academic work — and note the date we checked them.
  • Where accounts differ, we say so instead of stating one as fact. We avoid stereotypes and condescension.
  • Dates, hours and prices can change. Articles show when we checked them; please also check official information before you go.
  • Photos of real people, places and venues are licensed photographs with credits in the caption. We never present AI-generated images as real scenes; older articles that still carry AI illustrations are being switched to real photographs.

How we use AI

We use AI for research, drafting and translation of articles and podcasts. The J-Times editors check the facts and sources, revise the wording and decide what is published. Podcast voices are generated with AI, and each episode description says so with the date checked.

Related services

Jon&Coo Inc. also operates services such as the Matsuri experience booking platform. When an article mentions them, the article discloses that they are run by the same company.
